Mud vs Board

Old School "Mud"

Mud is our specialty here at AST, Historically, a tile installer floated mud on walls and floors before tile was set. The intent was to prepare a flat level surface, so the finished product is straight and true. With the all the new age products , many tile installers never learned how, or over time lost the ability, to float a wall with mud. This method will insure the best of quality for generations to come.

New Age (Cement Board)
Cement board is a thin layer of mortar sandwiched
between sheets of fiberglass mesh cloth. The 1/2-in. thick board is designed for the DIY projects tile installers grow fond of the product for the easy application and the no training involved. but with improper application of the product can cause leaks and or molded sub floor.
